What is a Budget Planner?
A budget planner is a financial tool that helps you track your income, categorize your expenses, and identify savings opportunities. By organizing your money into income sources and expense categories, you can see exactly where your money goes each month and make informed decisions about your spending habits.
This free online budget planner runs entirely in your browser with no sign-up required. Your data is saved locally on your device, giving you privacy and convenience.
How to Use the Budget Planner
- Add Income Sources: Click “Add Income” and enter each source of income (salary, freelance work, investments, etc.) with the monthly amount.
- Enter Expenses: Fill in the amount for each expense category (Housing, Food, Transport, Entertainment, Other). Leave blank or zero for categories you don’t use.
- View Summary: Your total income, expenses, and savings amount are calculated automatically. The savings rate shows what percentage of your income you’re saving.
- Analyze the Chart: The doughnut chart visualizes how your expenses are distributed across categories, helping you identify areas to cut back.
- Export & Share: Use the export button to generate a text summary of your budget that you can save, print, or share.
- Data Persistence: All your data is automatically saved to your browser’s local storage, so it persists between sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is my data private?
Yes, completely. The budget planner runs entirely in your browser and stores data locally on your device. No information is sent to any server or external service. Your financial data never leaves your computer.
Can I use this on mobile?
Yes, the budget planner is fully responsive and works on smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers. All features are accessible on mobile devices.
What happens if I close the browser?
Your data is saved automatically in your browser’s local storage. When you return and open the tool again, all your income, expenses, and settings will still be there. Note: Clearing your browser cache will delete the saved data.
Can I track multiple months?
This tool focuses on a single month at a time. However, you can export your monthly summaries and track them separately. For multi-month tracking, consider maintaining multiple exports or using spreadsheet software.
How accurate should my numbers be?
Use your actual monthly amounts for the most useful budget. Round to the nearest dollar or nearest $5 depending on your preference. The goal is to understand your spending patterns, so exact precision is less important than tracking trends.
What if I want to change the expense categories?
The current tool uses standard expense categories. If you need custom categories, you can use the “Other” category to group additional expenses, or consider exporting your data and using a spreadsheet for more flexibility.
