What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into focused 25-minute intervals (called "pomodoros"), separated by short breaks. After 4 pomodoros, take a longer 15–30 minute break.

How to Use This Pomodoro Timer

  1. Choose a task you want to work on.
  2. Click Start and work until the 25-minute timer ends.
  3. When the timer beeps, take a 5-minute short break.
  4. After 4 pomodoros, take a 15-minute long break.
  5. Use Pause to temporarily stop the timer if interrupted.

Why Pomodoro Works

  • Reduces distractions — knowing you only need to focus for 25 minutes makes it easier to resist interruptions.
  • Prevents burnout — regular breaks maintain mental freshness throughout the day.
  • Makes large tasks manageable — breaking work into time boxes removes the overwhelm of big projects.
  • Tracks productive time — counting completed pomodoros gives a tangible measure of work done.
